ABOUT
AI is changing the way we think and learn. How can we ensure that these new tools will help promote the flourishing of persons and the communities in which they grow and live?

I'm a philosopher and theologian who has been teaching for over twenty-five years about growth and decline in Western culture. I approach this question from the perspective of someone interested in what makes people grow and flourish, and in the kinds of communities (marriage, family, neighborhood, parish, town, state, nation, faith community, world) that promote the goods which make life worth living.

I've written or co-written books on community renewal, theology, spirituality, and marriage/family life. I'm now working on a book about AI and a philosophy of persons and communities.

I speak to schools and colleges about AI and contemplative pedagogy for the sake of flourishing communities.

I teach in the Philosophy Department at Boston College.
